Mr. John Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the number of males and females, respectively, unemployed in the Port Talbot travel-to-work area; and what percentage this is of the insured population at the last convenient date and also one year before.

; On 12 June 1980 there were 4,164 males and 2,451 females registered as unemployed in the area, the equivalent of an unemployment percentage rate of 7.8 per cent. for males and 8.8 per cent. for females. Corresponding figures and rates for June 1979 were 3,336 and 1,965 and 6.2 per cent. and 7.1 per cent. respectively. In all cases these calculations are based on estimates of the insured population at mid-1977.

At 10 April 1980 there were 369 boys and 379 girls aged 18 years old and under registered as unemployed in the area. Corresponding figures for April 1979 were 406 and 354 respectively.
