HC Deb 07 July 1980 vol 988 c59W
Mr. Watson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the extent of the financial commitment to date in respect of the Torness nuclear power station.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

I am advised by the South of Scotland Electricity Board that £130 million has been committed to date in respect of Torness.

Mr. Watson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much money has been spent to date upon preliminary works for the Torness nuclear power station.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

I am advised by the South of Scotland Electricity Board that £35 million has been spent on preliminary work, including £17 million at site on civil works, the construction village, and so on.

Mr. Watson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the estimated cost of the graphite moderator for the Torness nuclear power station.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

I am advised by the South of Scotland Electricity Board that in order not to prejudice its commercial position prior to the award of contracts it is not the board's practice to publish its estimates for the costs of specific plant components, such as the graphite moderator.
