HC Deb 07 July 1980 vol 988 c39W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Lord Privy Seal how much in total his Department will pay in insurance during the current financial year; and if he will publish a functional breakdown of the total amount.

Mr. Hurd

It is Government policy to pay commercial insurance premiums only when there is a statutory or contractual obligation or a particular advantage in so doing. In conformity with this policy, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, including Overseas Development Administration, expenditure on insurance during the financial year 1980–81 will be £273,213, broken down as follows: insurance of motor vehicles £44,901; contribution to insurance of personal effects of staff stationed overseas £228,312.
