Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will appoint a board member to the British Waterways Board with specific responsibility for reviewing and selling land and property surplus to the board's immediate requirements.

Mr. Fox

The allocation of responsibilities to individual members of the British Waterways Board is a matter for the chairman.

Mr. Speller

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why there is no consumer representation on the British Waterways Board; and if he will make a statement upon the basis of appointments to the board.

Mr. Fox

I refer my hon. Friend to my reply to him on 18 June 1980.—[Vol. 986, c. 533.]
