asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will summarise the objections he has so far received to the proposed statutory sick pay scheme as set out in Cmnd. 7864.

Most of the 60 or so representations so far received have welcomed the principles underlying the Government's proposals. There have been a number of comments on the details of the scheme. These have expressed concern about the proposed level of sick pay, the proposed compensation for employers and the possible impact of the proposals on the employment prospects of the chronically sick.

We are considering these and other comments very carefully and discussions are being held with a number of organisations
