Mr. Edwin Wrainwright

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Grants received from the European regional development fund towards roads in England, which were all for local authority capital projects, have amounted to:

£
Pre-1976–77 Nil
1976–77 731,538
1977–78 2,210,522
1978–79 1,769,660

In addition, some local authorities and other bodies have received loans from the European Investment Bank that have been applied to road projects.

Aid towards roads in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is the responsibility of the Secretaries of State for those countries.
