The average term served at release on licence by prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment who were released in each of the last five years in Scotland is as follows:

1975 9 years
1976 9 years 5 months
1977 10 years 6 months
1978 10 years 1 month
1979 10 years 4 months

This includes persons detained during Her Majesty's pleasure, but not those who have been released on licence and subsequently recalled.
