Mr. Sheerman

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what percentage of the total unemployed is represented by those who are registered as disabled at present and those registered in November 1969; contributions and assuming they are all aged 16 years and over.

Mr. Jim Lester

Sums arisig from the employment of the numbers quoted, and on the assumptions stated below, are as follows:

(2) what percentage of the total employed is represented by those who are registered as disabled at the present and those registered in November 1969.

Mr. Jim Lester

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that unemployed registered disabled people represented 4.5 per cent. of all unemployed people in November 1979, whilst in November 1969 they represented 12.5 per cent. There are no precise figures available of the number of registered disabled people in work.
