asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will detail the number of housing starts in Scottish new towns in 1979.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

The number of housing starts in each of the Scottish new towns was as follows:

East Kilbride 94
Glenrothes 289
Cumbernauld 23
Livingston 381
Irvine 197
Total 984
