§ Mr. BiffenThe adequacy of present arrangements for the accountability of Government expenditure to the House is in the first place a matter for the House itself and its Select Committees. As one 29W result of various suggestions put forward by Select Committees in the previous Parliament the Government are currently reviewing the role and functions of the Comptroller and Auditor General and a Green Paper on the matter is expected to be published before long. The Comptroller and Auditor General's reports on the first volume of the audited Appropriation Accounts for 1978–79 are expected to be published later this month, and his remaining reports shortly the rafter.
