§ Mr. Canavanasked the Secretary of State for Defence for what purposes courses have been introduced at Camberley staff training college for military personnel to be trained to identify and take action against alleged subversive elements in the civilian population; and if he is satisfied that such courses are a proper use of the timetable of the college.
§ Mr. HayhoeAn awareness of the various potential threats to our society is part of the general education of an Army officer, and I am satisfied that it is entirely proper that a part of the Staff College course should deal with terrorism and subversion. This does not imply a role for the Army in identifying and taking action against subversive elements in the civilian population, and no courses exist to train military personnel for this purpose.
