HC Deb 17 January 1980 vol 976 cc851-2W
35. Mr. Torney

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what the effect will be of the EEC proposal to abolish the production refund to the United Kingdom maize starch industry.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The proposal to phase out production refunds to the Community starch industry is intended to bring about a saving of expenditure from the EAGGF, estimated by the EEC Commission at 131 million EUA a year from 1983 onwards. The proposed measures would result in a significant cost increase by raising the price of raw materials used in the production of starch to the full Community levels
