HC Deb 16 January 1980 vol 976 c779W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if, in view of the fact that the fishing organisations disagree with the imposition of the increased general levy to the White Fish Authority amounting to 1.6p per stone until the future of the White Fish Authority and the Herring Industry Board has been finalised, he will reconsider the position or expedite his decision on the future of these two boards.

Mr. Peter Walker

The Government have reviewed the future of the White Fish Authority and the Herring Industry Board, taking account of the Government's policy of scrutinising all non-departmental public bodies. We consider that the interest of the fishing industry would best be served by the establishment of a single statutory body to replace the existing authority and board. We now intend to consult the interests concerned.
