HC Deb 16 January 1980 vol 976 cc788-90W
Mr. McQuade

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement concerning the killing of Mr. Thomas Montgomery, a 64-year-old taxi driver, who died on Saturday 12 January.

Mr. Humphrey Atkins

At 22.45 on 11 January it was reported that a number of youths were stoning passing traffic at the junction of Crumlin Road and Wood-vale Road, Belfast. On the arrival of members of the security forces at the scene, the area was found to be clear but it was established that one man, Mr. Thomas Montgomery, had been struck on the head and seriously injured while driving his taxi in the area. Mr. Montgomery subsequently died in the early evening of 12 January. Police inquiries into his death are continuing.
