HC Deb 16 January 1980 vol 976 cc757-8W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many representations he has had concerning the proposed question on race in the 1981 census; and if he will list those organisations in favour and those against; and when he expects to make a final decision on the inclusion of a question on race in the 1981 census.

Sir George Young

Representations, made either in writing or orally at consultative meetings, have been received "Which Benefit?" the more useful of the two publications. Preparation of a single leaflet is also more economical in terms of staff resources and production costs. For these reasons, in future we will publish only "Which Benefit?".

Printing of the new edition of "Which Benefit?" has been delayed, but delivery from the printers is now expected later this month.
