HL Deb 15 January 1980 vol 404 c100WA
Lord ORAM

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many advisers from the United Kingdom have gone to Southern Rhodesia to assist the Governor in the new situation of legality and how many of them are from the Overseas Development Administration.

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN and COMMONWEALTH AFFAIRS (Lord Carrington)

The Governor is assisted by a Deputy Governor, an Election Commissioner and Deputy, and military and police advisers, with supporting staff, and a number of senior British officials.

There are at present no ODA officials in Southern Rhodesia, but it is intended that ODA representatives should visit the country as soon as this is appropriate. After independence personnel responsible for United Kingdom development aid will be appointed to the British mission in Zimbabwe.
