HL Deb 15 January 1980 vol 404 c92WA
Lord INGLEWOOD

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many police forces in England, Scotland and Wales have (a) raised or (b) lowered the educational standards required of recruits for the police service since the making public of the Edmund-Davies recommendations on police pay.

Lord BELSTEAD

Since the publication of the report, 14 forces in England, 3 in Wales and none in Scotland have raised the pass mark they apply in the standard entrance test taken by candidates in England and Wales who lack the prescribed minimum educational qualification of 4 ' O ' levels, and by all candidates in Scotland. None has lowered the mark.
