HC Deb 14 January 1980 vol 976 cc620-1W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he intends to review the practice of placing English place names above Welsh place names on road signs in Wales.

Mr. Michael Roberts

My right hon. Friend has undertaken to give further consideration to this matter. He will do so in the light of a study now being carried out for the Welsh Office by the University of Wales institute of science and technology.

Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what steps he intends to take to protect road signs from vandalism and ensure that road users have adequate guidance.

Mr. Michael Roberts

Enforcement of the law is a matter for the police. My right hon. Friend is of course concerned for the safety and convenience of road users, and damaged signs are restored or replaced appropriately.
