HC Deb 14 January 1980 vol 976 cc561-2W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if the minimum use of force tactical intervention squad has been employed since 15 November 1979; if so, where and for what reasons; and if he will make a public statement in future when it is employed.

Mr. Whitelaw

No. I shall make a statement about any instance of indiscipline by inmates, whether or not the teams referred to are deployed, whenever the circumstances call for it.

Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if the regional director of the south-east region of the prison department sent official congratulations to the minimum use of force tactical intervention squad on its handling of the incident at Wormwood Scrubs on 31 August 1979; and, if so, by whom and how it was signed.

Mr. Whitelaw

No. However, the deputy regional director of the south-east region sent a personal note to the governors of five establishments thanking them for making officers available.
