Mr. Craigen

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, pursuant to his reply on 18 December 1979 to the hon. Member for Glasgow, Maryhill, what statutory authority he has to lay aside the requirement of paragraph 6 in schedule 5 to the Industry Act 1975 to publish a forecast path for inflation in the intervening period to the fourth quarter of 1980 and for subsequent quarters.

The Government's view is that the forecast published in December 1979 fully meets the requirements of the Industry Act 1975.
