HC Deb 14 January 1980 vol 976 c578W
Mr. Gwilym Roberts

asked the Secretary of State for Energy when he expects to come to a conclusion on the development of fast breeder reactors; and if he will now make a statement.

Mr. David Howell

I have now received the advice of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority and others concerned. I am studying it and will make a statement in due course.

Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Energy, in the light of his statement of Tuesday, 18 December, what is to be the future programme for the fast breeder reactor.

Mr. David Howell

I have now received advice from the chairman of the UKAEA and others concerned in the nuclear and electricity supply industries about the future development of the fast reactor in the United Kingdom. I am studying this advice and will make a statement in due course. Any decision to build a commercial demonstration fast reactor would be subject to a full public inquiry.
