asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from the chief executive of the Greater Manchester council and the secretary of the Greater Manchester association of metropolitan authorities with regard to derelict land clearance status and for such status to be a qualification for access to European regional development fund money's; what reply he has sent; what action he is taking; and if he will make a statement.

The representations were concerned with the question of designating Greater Manchester as a derelict land clearance area when it ceases to be an assisted area in 1982 and with the prospect of access to the European regional development fund.
