HC Deb 14 January 1980 vol 976 cc549-50W
Mr. Shersby

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is the latest estimate of the cost of constructing the British Library on the Euston site; if he has reviewed the original decision to cons-

present consultative period any representations which may be made for a reduction in the size of the sample.

Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster why he has suggested that public lending right should terminate at the end of the fiftieth year after the author's death; and if he will consider reducing this period.

Mr. St. John-Stevas

The period of 50 years is the period specified in the Public Lending Right Act 1979, subject to any provision which may be made in the scheme, about which I am currently holding consultations. I shall be happy to consider any representations that the period should be reduced.
