§ Mr. Onslowasked the Secretary of State for Trade what representations he has received concerning the comprehensibility of the Price Marking (Bargain Offer) Order 1979.
§ Mrs. Sally OppenheimI have received a number of complaints that the order is complex and difficult to understand. I recognise the problems which traders face and am anxious to avoid placing undue burdens upon them. However, I am equally concerned to ensure that misleading price and value claims should be prohibited. I propose, therefore, to allow the order to remain in force for the present. I shall, however, consider whether, in the light of experience, the objectives of the order could be achieved in a simpler manner.
