§ Mr. Dubsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the public lavatory facilities for disabled people in central London; if he will discuss the matter with the relevant London boroughs so that improvements can be achieved before the International Year of Disabled People in 1981; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FoxThe provision of public conveniences is a matter for local authorities and when providing new facilities they have a duty, imposed by the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970, to make provision, so far as is practicable and reasonable, for the needs of the disabled. I am sure they will take into account the aims of the International Year of Disabled People.
