Why on the morning of 14th February the thermometers were recording 76 °F near the Peers' Entrance and 74°F in the House of Lords Library, and whether the heating will in future be somewhat reduced.
Earl FERRERSThe Peers' Entrance area is served by the steam radiator system; temperatures can only be reduced by turning off the radiators. A thermostatically controlled system, to be introduced in this area in the 1980 Summer Recess, should result in improved control. Although the Library is fitted with thermostats (controlled by the staff), ambient temperatures and the lighting and electrical equipment may keep temperatures above 68°F. This difficulty will be removed when the planned air-cooling programme is implemented.
