§ Mr. BrittanThe provisional figure for the average daily population of persons on remand in prison department establishments in England and Wales in 1979 is 6,130; this represents about 14½ per cent. of the total average daily population. Information on the average daily population of prison department establishments in England and Wales in 1979 will be published later in the year in "Prison Statistics England and Wales"—tables 1.1 and 1.4 of the volume for 1978, Cmnd 7626.
