HC Deb 22 February 1980 vol 979 c385W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if, in the light of recent piracy on the high seas, he is satisfied with the present protection provided for British merchant shipping.

Mr. Tebbit

There is close consulation with shipping industry on the advisability of British ships entering areas where their safety could be at risk. It is for the individual ship owner to decide upon appropriate action, but I am satisfied that this arrangement provides the best form of protection against foreseeable risks that British ships might encounter.
