§ 46. Mr. Chapmanasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the operation of green belt policies within the town and country planning development control system.
§ Mr. FoxGreen belt is an effective instrument in planning the location of development. Local planning authorities operate development control and within green belts urban development is firmly resisted.
§ 47. Mr. Dykesasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take action against encroachment on the green belt in and around greater London.
§ Mr. FoxI confirm the Government's intention to continue to protect the green belt around London. The planning and development control system already provides for that, though it does not preclude all development on green belt land.
