Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what proportion of the total expenditure of his Department was incurred in Wales in 1978–79.

Defence expenditure is not accounted for on a regional basis. Very broad assessments for the years 1975–76 to 1977–78 suggested that about 3 per cent. per annum of defence expenditure was incurred in Wales, and there is no reason to think that this figure changed in 1978–79. It is, however, not possible to make a detailed assessment.
