§ Mr. David Steelasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list in the Official Report all those local authorities in England and Wales which have announced reductions in spending on services provided under section 2 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970; and if he will specify each reduction, within every authority, indicating the cost saving expected per item.
§ Mr. PrenticeI regret that information in the form requested is not available centrally and could only be collected at disproportionate cost. Details of actual and estimated expenditure on personal social services by each social service authority are published annually by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and copies of these publications are in the Library of the House. It should be noted that it is not always possible to decide whether provision is made under section 2 of the 1970 Act or other legislation.
