HC Deb 21 February 1980 vol 979 cc310-1W
Mr. Allan Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, what contribution he intends health education will make to economies in public expenditure for 1980–81.

Sir George Young

In relation to expenditure at national level, final decisions have not yet been taken on the scale of funding for 1980–81 for the Health Education Council. Expenditure on local health education services is a matter for each area health authority concerned.

Mr. Frank R. White

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what percentage of total health expenditure for the Greater Manchester regional health authority and the remaining health authorities of Great Britain is spent upon health education.

Sir George Young

Information about total expenditure by health authorities on health education is not available centrally. Many of those working in the health professions undertake health education in the course of their daily work, but it is not practicable to quantify the cost of these activities and they are not separately identifiable in the financial accounts.
