Rossasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will publish a table in the Official Report showing how many persons have been charged with being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle in Northern Ireland during the last year, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, respectively.
§ Mr. AlisonIt is not possible to provide the detailed information requested as records are not maintained on a daily basis. During the year ended 31 January 1980, 2,920 persons were charged with the offence of driving, attempting to drive or being in charge of a motor vehicle while under the influence of drink or drugs to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of a motor vehicle. In the same period a further 1,393 persons were charged with driving or attempting to drive or being in charge of a motor vehicle whilst the level of alcohol in his blood or urine was in excess of the prescribed limit.
