HC Deb 18 February 1980 vol 979 cc84-5W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services in how many cases, in the last convenient period (a) in England and (b) in Wales an unemployed claimant's appeal against the adverse decision of the local national insurance tribunal (i) has been referred to the department's commissioner and (ii) has resulted in a decision by the commissioner in favour of the claimant.

Mrs. Chalker

The information is not available in the form requested and could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. In the year ending 30 September 1979, however, the National Insurance Commissioners gave decisions on 581 appeals from unemployment benefit claimants, or from an association acting on behalf of a claimant. The table below shows how these appeals were decided:

what was the number of general practitioners per 1,000 population in the Greater Manchester region for the years 1977, 1978 and 1979; and how this compares with England and Wales over the same period;

(2) what was the number of general practitioners per 1,000 population in the Yorkshire region for the years 1977, 1978 and 1979; and how this compares with England and Wales over the same period.

Sir George Young

The information is as follows:
