§ Mr. Whitelaw[pursuant to his reply, 28 January 1980, c. 435–36]: The longest period for which any person held on remand in custody in Canterbury prison on 31 December 1979 had been so held was 446 days. Three men had been so held and each had been charged with drugs offences.
