§ Dr. Roger Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has for funding the National Health Service by national lotteries; and if he will ensure that money subscribed in any one locality in a national lottery would be used to better the medical provision of that locality.
§ Dr. VaughanThe introduction of a national lottery, with proceeds distributed to good causes, was recommended by the Royal Commission on gambling. The Royal Commission's report was debated on 29 October 1979, but the Government have not yet reached a conclusion on this recommendation. If such a lotterly were introduced, I would certainly hope that the National Health Service might benefit.
