HC Deb 11 February 1980 vol 978 c466W
Dr. Edmund Marshall

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether he will make a statement on the recent discussions at official level with the Government of the Republic of Ireland concerning the delineation of the continental shelf between the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Hurd

At a further meeting of officials on 6 February it was agreed that the delimitation of the continental shelf as between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland should be submitted to an ad hoc arbitral tribunal of five members, subject to agreement between the two parties on the composition and terms of reference of that tribunal and related matters.

Further discussions will take place in April.
