HC Deb 11 February 1980 vol 978 cc489-90W
Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many Greater London Council properties in each of the 32 London boroughs are to be transferred to each borough.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

The Secretary of State has received from the GLC and the appropriate borough councils submissions requesting him to make an order under section 23(3) of the London Govern- ment Act 1963 transferring the number of dwellings shown in each of the following London boroughs:

Barking 12,520
Barnett 2,910
Bexley 500
Bromley 6,160
Croydon 990
Ealing 2,460
Enfield 570
Greenwich 9,850
Hammersmith 4,360
Harrow 1,420
Havering 5,380
Hillingdon 110
Kensington and Chelsea 1,800
Kingston 260
Merton 2,910
Redbridge 3,220
Richmond 640
Southwark 23,170
Sutton 4,840
Wandsworth 11,470
Westminster 5,400
Total 100,940

The GLC has also requested transfer of 830 dwellings in the London borough of Newham; and I understand that the Secretary of State is likely to receive a corresponding request from the borough council. The Secretary of State proposes to lay before Parliament shortly an order giving effect to these transfers.

In addition, in a few cases where estates are split by borough boundaries, the GLC has applied for consent to convey the remainder of the estates to the boroughs taking transfer of the other dwellings on those estates.
