HC Deb 07 February 1980 vol 978 c322W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the present supplementary benefit rate for a married man, his wife, a single woman living independently and a single woman living with her parents, aged 18 or more and under 18 years.

Mrs. Chalker

A married couple are treated jointly and their weekly supplementary benefit requirements—excluding rent which is provided for separately—are set at £29.70—£37.65 if the long-term scale applies. The corresponding requirements of the other persons would be £18.30 (£23.70), £14.65 (£18.95) and £11.25 respectively. There is no long-term scale rate for those under 18 years of age.

Leaflets SB1, SB8 and SB9, which I am sending the hon. Member, set out the scale rates and their application more fully.
