HC Deb 07 February 1980 vol 978 c325W
Miss Richardson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in the event of an explosion on industrial premises in the vicinity of a populated area, local hospitals are alerted; and, if so, by whom.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

The emergency services are normally alerted when there are indications that a major accident may have occurred. The Department has advised health authorities that in these circumstances it is for the ambulance service to warn the appropriate hospital to be available to receive the initial flow of casualties together with a second hospital to be in support.
