HC Deb 06 February 1980 vol 978 c266W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total number of staff of the Central Registry of Friendly Societies; how many of these have professional qualifications; what is the nature of these qualifications; how many of these are engaged full time on building society matters; and how these figures compare with those for 1976.

Mr. Lawson

On 31 January 1980 the staff of the Central Office of the Registry of Friendly Societies and of the Office of the Industrial Assurance Commissioner—for staff purposes these two offices are combined—totalled 116. Six of this number have professional qualifications: three are barristers, one is a solicitor and two are accountants. Twenty-two of the staff are engaged full-time on building society matters.

On 31 December 1976 the total number of staff was 118, of whom seven had professional qualifications: three barristers, two solicitors and two accountants. At that date 17 of the staff were engaged full-time on building society matters.
