HC Deb 05 February 1980 vol 978 c106W
Mr. Brinton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will review present arrangements whereby citizens of Eire living in the United Kingdom are allowed to vote in British general elections.

Mr. Brittan

As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister stated in reply to a question by my hon. Friend the Member for Northampton, North (Mr. Marlow) on 20 November—[Vol. 974, c. 90.]—the Government have no proposals to change the unique position of Irish citizens living in this country who, although not British subjects, enjoy the privilege of voting in our elections.
