HC Deb 05 February 1980 vol 978 cc117-8W
Mr. Straw

asked the Prime Minister in what circumstances and on what conditions Ministers may appoint special political or policy advisers.

The Prime Minister

Ministers may, subject to my approval, appoint special advisers to assist with that part of their work which is partly governmental and partly political or to give expert advice in a particular professional field. The terms of employment are based on those of civil servants; in all cases service terminates at or before the end of the current Administration.
