HC Deb 05 February 1980 vol 978 c186W
Mr. Stainton

asked the Minister of Agriculture. Fisheries and Food what details are available to him of the total and regional statistics of the spread of rabies in France; and what trends these indicate.

Mr. Wiggin

In the first 11 months of 1979 there were 1,329 cases in France, compared with 1,193 cases in the whole of 1978 and 1,676 in 1977. The majority of cases occur amongst foxes. The disease is concentrated in eastern central France but it is intensifying near the Swiss border. There has been no evidence for several years of spread towards the north coast of France.
