HC Deb 05 February 1980 vol 978 c112W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Attorney-General how many civil servants are employed at the Lord Chancellor's Office in Belfast; and what is the annual cost of their salaries.

The Attorney-General

No part of the Lord Chancellor's Office is situated in Northern Ireland.

The Northern Ireland court service for which the Lord Chancellor is responsible, employs 513 civil servants in Northern Ireland, of whom 313 work in Belfast, and of these 75 are employed in the Northern Ireland Court Service headquarters office. In addition a number of casual staff are employed on a short-term basis.

The total cost of the salaries of the staff for the year ending 31 March 1980 is estimated at £2,980,370. The annual cost of staff employed in Belfast is not separately available.
