HC Deb 05 February 1980 vol 978 cc176-7W
Mr. Field

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, if family allowances and child interim benefit remained at their April 1976 levels, what their gross costs would have been in 1977–78, 1978–79, 1979–80 and 1980–81.

Mrs. Chalker

It is estimated that, if family allowances for second and subsequent children and child interim benefit remained at £1.50 per week, the gross cost would have been:

1977–78 £530 million
1978–79 £518 million
1979–80 £516 million
1980–81 £514 million
