HC Deb 05 February 1980 vol 978 cc111-2W
Mr. Alton

asked the Attorney-General if he will make a statement about the recognition of the Exclusive Brethren for charitable purposes.

The Solicitor-General

The recognition of the Exclusive Brethren for charitable purposes is a question which only the courts can decide. One action raising this question is being pursued actively in the courts at this moment. It would not be proper for the Attorney-General to comment upon the charitable status of the Exclusive Brethren whilst this action is in progress. He will make a statement when the case is concluded.
