§ Mr. Frank R. Whiteasked the Secretary of State for Employment what aid, and under which headings, has been received from the European Community for each year since 1973 for employment projects in each of the separate regions of the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. Jim LesterThe United Kingdom receives support from the European social fund for a number of its training and employment measures. Allocations from the fund for measures carried out in Northern Ireland, for which allocations can be separately identified, and the whole of Great Britain are as follows:
Northern Ireland Great Britain £ million £ million 1973 4.1 19.8 1974 4.2 21.8 1975 6.4 39.6 1976 8.8 35.5 1977 10.9 74.2 1978 18.1 57.0 1979 24.6 105.9 In Great Britain many of the measures supported by the fund are carried out on a national basis, so that the allocations received in respect of them relate not to particular regions but to the whole country or to several regions together. Consequently I regret that information relating to the separate regions of Great Britain is not available.
Support from the European regional development fund is a matter for my colleague the Secretary of State for Industry.
