HC Deb 05 February 1980 vol 978 cc170-1W
Mr. Kenneth Lewis

asked the Minister of Transport what instructions he has given his Department on the numbers permitted to attend public visits or other functions paid for by his Department; and whether he has sought a reduction in the cost of such official visits.

Mr. Fowler

Instructions to my Department require that visits should be made or functions attended only where this is essential to the discharge of public business. Numbers must also be kept to a minimum and journeys arranged as economically as possible.
