§ Mr. Kenneth Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Trade what instructions he has given his Department on the numbers permitted to attend public visits or other functions paid for by his Department; and whether he has sought reductions in the cost of such official visits.
§ Mr. EyreAll visits and attendance at functions at public expense require the authority of senior officers. A notice has been issued recently to senior management in my Department emphasising the need for economy in expenditure on travelling and drawing attention to various ways, including limitations on the numbers participating in visits, in which such economies might be achieved.
